The Story of This Rug
The garden panel (khesti / garden design) is Persian rug weaving’s most direct depiction of the paradise garden, dating back to the Safavid period: the rug’s surface is divided into grid-like sections, each depicting a separate flower bed. Among Bakhtiari nomads, this design has endured under the name “khesti” (brick). Afghan artisans re-create this heritage in a Chobi botanical palette; the wool is dyed with plant extracts and given a patina through washing.
Why Choose a One-of-a-Kind Handwoven Afghan Rug
- Originality: One of a kind.
- Durable botanical dyes: Fade-resistant.
- Ghazni wool: Silky sheen.
- Asymmetrical Persian knot: Crisp detail.
- Investment value: Appreciates in value.
Color and Pattern
The rug’s surface is divided into four large panels: a garden with a turquoise ground at the upper left, a row of flowers on a golden-yellow ground at the upper right, a bouquet of palmettes on a madder-red ground at the lower left, and a second section on a golden ground at the lower right. Shah Abbas palmettes, lotus buds, cypresses, and tiny boteh motifs create an independent garden within each panel. A wide pomegranate-red outer border frames the panels with a frieze of palmettes and rosettes on an ivory ground; the inner border is a narrow turquoise stripe.

Protect Their Elegance
To preserve the original splendor and silky texture of Carpetdocia’s handwoven, natural-fiber creations that bring value to your living space for generations, adopt a gentle care routine.
Immediate Action and Liquid Spills
When spills occur, timing is critical. Use a clean, slightly damp cloth to lift the liquid from the surface by gently blotting only - never rub. Always work in the direction of the rug pile (the fibers’ natural lay). Rubbing can damage the shape of delicate fibers such as TENCEL™ and viscose. If in doubt, stop immediately.
Routine Care and Light Balance
For your weekly cleaning routine, always use vacuum cleaners with low suction power. High-powered upright vacuums and stiff brushes can damage the natural structure of handwoven yarns. To balance natural fibers’ reaction to light and prevent localized tonal differences (fading), we recommend changing your rug’s direction every 2 to 6 months.
The Expert Touch (Professional Cleaning)
Noble fibers such as handwoven TENCEL™, viscose, and New Zealand wool should not come into contact with household chemical cleaners. These products can irreversibly damage the rug’s silky sheen and structural integrity. For a thorough clean, seek help only from professional rug care centers specializing in natural fibers.

The exquisite pieces in the Carpetdocia collections are not suitable for machine washing due to their construction. (Only specific models explicitly labeled “Washable” in their name can be washed in home washing machines using a low-temperature, delicate cycle.)
