Sumak (Soumak) is one of the centuries-old weaving techniques rooted in Anatolia and the Caucasus. In this technique, pattern threads are individually wrapped around the base (warp) threads, creating a dense and characteristically textured surface different from knotted rugs. The wrapping method leaves the back of the rug as neat and clean as the front, making Sumak weaving durable and unique. The horizontal striped, basket-like appearance on the surface also comes from this special technique. In the Paglia Series, the Sumak technique combined with a dense wool texture reaching 8 mm thickness offers both a natural and simple aesthetic and a soft, sturdy foundation. Since natural wool fibers can be affected by water and excessive moisture, home washing, machine washing, or wet cleaning is not recommended.
